I awoke early this morning to take my daughter to the endocrinologist. It was not good news. He said she has the beginning of nueropathy in her feet, her kidneys are being affected, her stomach is affected. She is really ill today but he put her on two different types of shots and some other meds. Yesterday the dr. told her if she is not going to work with him, he does not want to see her again. This dr. says the same thing. She has to work with him and I am praying she does.

We stopped at our favorite resteraunt to eat and she did real well with chosing her breakfast. She did not ask for ice cream the way she normally does. No desert and I was proud of her for that.

We are having another meal from the garden. Potatoes and our own cabbage with some corned beef. My husband loves it.

I did go for my walk today. It was raining but it was warm rain and I love it when it is like that.

  1. Oh Garnet I am so sorry to hear about your daughter. I too developed peripheral neuropathy in my legs and feet and it was very painful. My feet were so hot and burned all the time...the good news Garnet is that although there is no cure it can absolutely be controlled. I now have no pain or trouble with my legs and feet since I took control of my diabetes. Once she gets her sugars under control, practices eating smaller portion sizes, exercises on a regular bases she can and will feel better. If she doesn't Garnet she will find herself very sick and could possibly have a stroke or go into kidney failure. Garnet, only your daughter can do this. There are no magic pills or no magical doctors. Your daughter has to take the responsibility of her disease seriously as no one but her can do it. You can support and encourage her Garnet but its now up to her. She may need some counselling to help her realize just how serious her condition is. It is easy to live in denial but takes a strong and determined person to take control of her life. I know you love her and want the best for her but you cannot make her better, only she can do this for herself. I won't pretend that this is an easy thing to do but I know it can and must be done. I understand her doctors as they are beating on a dead horse here if she won't co-operate in helping with her own care. They can only do so much....I am sorry to be so blunt Garnet but this is a very serious disease and she could live a long, happy and healthy life if she wants to but she really has to want it to succeed. I am praying for her and hope she realizes just how much fun she can have, how life can be wonderful...she only has to take one moment at a time and start by saying just for this moment I will walk, just for this moment I will eat healthy, etc. She can do this Garnet, so many others have. If she wants to e-mail me for information, encouragement or anything please let her know I am here for her. I so want to see her get better especially when I know it can be done. Take care my friend and know if there is anything I can do to help I will. I have several books that may help her and do not mind mailing them to her at all. God Bless xo

  2. Hi Garnet,
I hope your daughter continues trying. If you keep making those good dinners, maybe it will help. I am very glad to hear also that you are walking more. This is really good news. I will pray for you and your daughter Garnet.

  3. I'm sure it's very hard for her, but I also tend to think that this life is it, so I hope she chooses to remain as healthy as possible for as long as possible.

  4. Bernie is so right Garnet...it is not something your daughter can be lax about...she needs to change her habits and develope new ones and gradually it will become easier...but it is something she can't put off..Good luck!

  5. I'm sorry she's not taking better care - perhaps this visit will convince her to change.
