Listen

Are you a good listener. When your friends come to you with a tale of woe, do you listen with your whole heart of half heartedly? Do you often let your mind wonder on your own problems when they need help with theirs. When there is a lull in the conversation do you wait for for them to continue or do you start speaking without thinking.

We have two ears. One mouth. The mouth is supposed to be used less then the ears when we are listening to our friends problems. Are we too quick to rush to judgment and tell them what they are doing wrong rather then listen to what they are saying. Or do we really listen before speaking.

And when we are angry. Oh, wow does that mouth flap at the wrong times. Instead of stopping and thinking of what we are saying and who we are hurting, we just let it all fly out.

If we could only listen to ourselves when we are angry or offering our so-called advice to friends who have come to us with a problem. Would we be proud or hang our heads in shame at what we have said.

James 1:19 says, 'Let everyone be quick to hear. Slow to speak. And slow to anger.'

Wise words indeed.

  4. I try. My problem may be that I'm a better listener than talker. Sometimes, however, Cuppa isn't too sure about my listening skills.
