It has been another cold damp day here and I have been battling a winter cold but I felt it was time to get back in the saddle and do some blogging.

Daughter is here visiting for a few days and she is waiting to talk to her friend on line here for a short time so this will not be long.

Am I the only one who remembers when people waited the the next day to talk to someone cause they had no way of conversing since the phone was a party line and we had to wait til it was clear and pray no one was listening while we talked to our 'special' friends? LOL My how times have changed!! I heard today that the average teen spends about 7 hours a day on some gadget. Either watching t.v. on the phone or on the computer. That is kind of sad in some ways. They should be doing some form of exercising and not just sitting while they are doing it.

I guess it is the sign of how much times have changed and we have to adapt. I am doing the best I can to keep up with all the changes but sometimes I get lost. *s*

  1. Oh yes I remember! :) All through my growing up years we had a party line with 2 other homes. Hated it because one of them was my Grandma and she had nothing to do but sit and listen to our phone calls...at least she had the decency to breath heavy so we at least knew she was on. :) I was such a stinker cause I would play dumb and say things like " Grandma is that you?" And she would hang up quickly...then a couple minutes later I would hear her pick up and her breathing once again. Ugh. And the other home was elderly people too and they were pretty good but once in awhile would catch them listening too. Ugh.

    I agree...kids don't get enough exercise...well at least most don't. :)

  2. I know all to well about the teens and their gadgets as I still have a 15 year old at home in addition to a 31 and 28 year old that are not living at home! I make my teen do chores about every thirty minutes so that I can get her moving! It annoys her but oh well! I do remember party lines, I loved listening to the old ladies talk!

  3. I remember party lines too Garnet. My grandkids have cell phones, but they do get out and hike in the woods a lot or ride dirt bikes. Some of them even have part time jobs now. Cell phones do make it easier to stay in touch with them for safety reasons, when they are in the woods or away from home.

  4. I recall spending hours watching tv or on the phone, or listening to records when I was young - but yes, we got out and wandered around with our friends too.

  6. Donna..I think you can tell pretty much what they are going to look like with obesity in children on the rise.

I enjoyed hearing your stories about the party lines. *s*

  7. Oh, I do remember party lines! We shared a line with several people on our street, one of whom was a terrible gossip named Hilda. That woman would spend HOURS on the phone. We had to pick up the phone and practically beg her to get off in order to be able to use it. But lots of times, we'd entertain ourselves by listening in as she talked badly about every neighbor on the street!

  8. Garnet I do remember the party lines and my poor mother trying to keep her six children from listening into others conversation......we would even fight over who got to the phone first to listen in, now I wouldn't even consider it so yes times have changed very much. Hope you are feeling better......:-) Hugs
