Thoughts on fathers day...

Fathers day is comeing up and I was talking to some friends about it. I never knew my dad as he skipped out when I was two and my mom, who was ill could not take care of us. It fell on my aunt to do the job but when I was six, she had her hands ful with my grandad being ill and another cousin who had no parents to raise him cause his dad was dead and his mom would not do it so I went back to my mom who could not do it so the welfare stepped in. I would not know what it was like to have the love of a father in my life but I had many wonderful men who were influences on my life. It is because of them that I know what it is like to have a father in my life.

First was my uncle Ab. He was a very gentle man who worked hard as a miner and took care of his family. I spent the first part of my life around him and looking up to him for the hugs and kisses he gave freely to me and his own children who were much older then me. He was stern but gentle. I can remember someone bouncing me on his knew and for years I thought it was my dad but it turns out it was my uncle. I just remember the smiles and hugs.

Then there was my foster sisters husband, Bud. He took the time talk to me and give me a man's point of view on things. He treated me like one of his own and corrected me when he felt I deserved it, praised me when he felt I needed it. He made me smile alot.

My father in law was like a father to me for years. He never treated me any different then he did his own daughters and often told me he thought of me as his daughter. Even at christmas time he bought me the same gifts he got his daughters. He treated his other daughter in law that way too. He was a wonderful man who we all loved dearly and we miss him, especially on Father's day.

I know Fathers are important and I wish mine had been different but we cannot always have what we want. Since I did not have that from my dad I was able to see how fathers were supposed to act with their children thru my fil and others in my life.

  1. In spite of your misfortune, you were quite fortunate. You had better male influences than I did even though my Dad was around.

  3. That was a tough start for you, but you and others made the best of it. I really appreciated your spirit of gratitude in this post. It's all in how you choose to look at life, I think, and you have chosen well.
