There are some people in your life who are there for just awhile then gone. Even though they are there for a short time, they mean so much to you and it is hard to forget whatever lessons you learned from them.

My aunt boots was a beautiful lady. Not beautiful as some of you might think to look at but beautiful, none the less. In my eyes there were few as kind and as gentle as she was. Oh, she was no push over. She had the mouth of a sailor if you pushed her the wrong way or said something she did not like about one of her kids or me.

I had not seen her for many years. Well, it was before I was taken from my mom and put into foster care. My mom always had my cousin drive her to our visits but my aunt never came. She was taking care of several other people in her home and could not get away.

I met her again when I was 19. It was so wonderful to see her and visit with her. We would sit for hours and talk about various things. She would tell me about my family and all the things I had missed out plus much of our family history. I would sit for hours and listen to her talk about them while she crocheted. She also taught me how to crochet and we made many afghans and doilies while we sat around the kitchen table, laughing, talking and crocheting. I grew to love her dearly and miss the times I spent with her.

But when I start to miss her I get out the album and look through all the photographs I have of her and her little dogs. Or, I get out my yarn and crochet hook and make another afghan....

  5. It's good that she was there to connect you to your past a bit. Among other things.
