Thirty years ago John Lennon died. He was murdered.  I remember where I was and who I was with.  Funny how you remember all the littl details that when something like that happens.  I was at the old farm house where we lived, sitting in the living room working on an afghan and talking to my husband while we watched television when it came across the screen that he had been killed.

I was not a fan of Lennon the man as I did not agree with his philosophy on life but I did love him as a song writer. I think he was one of the best and we lost a great talent when he died.  That saddened me.

This is one of my favorite Christmas songs...

So this is Christmas
and what have you done
another year over
a new one just begun

and so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
the near and the dear ones
the old and the young
a very Merry Christmas
and a Happy New Year
let's hope it's a good one
without any fear

and so this is Christmas (war is over...)
for weak and for strong (...if you want it)
the rich and the poor ones
the road is so long

and so happy Christmas
for black and for white
for the yellow and red ones
let's stop all the fight

a very Merry Christmas
and a Happy New Year
lets hope it's a good one
without any fear

so this is Christmas
and what have you done

  2. I'm still not a huge fan but I do like some of his philosophy and music. This was never one of the Christmas songs I liked - there's just something about it that makes me feel like I should apologize for something I have no control over.

  3. One of my very favorite songs of his. I got the album for Christmas when it came out. For some reason this song was the one that jumped out at me. It was a great loss to the music world.

  4. I was in the 11th grade when he died. I knew who he was; but his music had been the music of my older siblings generation. It was when I grew older that I appreciated his music and talent.

  5. I think this song just makes me look back and wonder if I could have done more. Not make me feel guilty but just thinking that it is possible that all of us could have done more to help others.
