Death penalty

I used to be a fence sitter where this topic was concerned but I have been watching a program called DEATH ROW.  While watching it, they had a shot of a man sitting at a window staring out at a bird flying in the sky.  He has such a look of longing on his face,  I started thinking of how awful it must be to see that blue sky, sunshine and birds and not be able to get out and feel the sunshine on your face or walk in the grass.  To not be able to do what you want when you want, not even eat a meal when you feel hungry must be horrible.  You can't watch tv when you want.  You cant go for a walk on or visit with a friend.  Nothing. It is all taken away.  That punishment for me would be so much worse then a quick death.

One of the guys is talking about dreaming about being home again and he wakes up in his cell and his hell starts all over again.  Sometimes, life is punishment enough.

Would I feel different if one of my loved ones were murdered??  I don't know....

If killing someone who was committed a murder would bring the victim back, I would be all for it.  But the death of someone will not bring the victim back.

And what if someone is killed and they find out the state killed an innocent man?  There is always a chance of that happening.

  1. I've never really had a problem with the death penalty. Only in extreme cases of horrible crime. An eye for an eye is sometimes the only answer.

  2. I'm not all for the death penalty except in particularly heinous circumstances, where the murderer is clearly a danger to society and is proven beyond the shadow of a doubt to be the guilty one - and perhaps guilty of multiple deaths - I don't care if the guy is insane - so what? I don't see the death penalty as a punishment so much as ridding society of someone who can't be trusted to be with others. Why pay to lock him up separately for years and years, costing society who has already lost to the "monster"? We put down animals that attack people - for safety reasons - not to punish the animal and that's how it should be viewed.

  3. Like you Garnet I think it is far more punishment to have to live in a tiny cell 23 hours a day for the rest of my life far worse than a needle putting me to sleep. I often wonder what Jesus would think if he came back today, would he agree with everyone having health care, I like to think he would approve of that, or children proudly pointing guns while posing for pictures.....somehow I just don't think he would enjoy this but sweetie everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Our world is so different, so much poverty, drugs, sadness. I loved being a kid,our lives were not perfect but we had such a good childhood, so much love in our home. The young people today have a totally different lifestyle. Sending big hugs my friend.....:-)

  4. Useless murder, pedophiles especially, I believe in an eye for an eye. We're not perfect...that's why we're here and Jesus is "there".

  5. Christians especially should question the death penalty. Give people their lives to consider their deeds and perhaps become new creatures. Besides, mistakes are indeed made, and some are wrongly executed.
